The Ultimate Guide to Free FIFA World Cup Watch Parties Around Vancouver

The action inside BC Place may be drawing the headlines, but some of the World Cup's most memorable moments are happening elsewhere. From the official FIFA Fan Festival at the PNE to waterfront watch parties on Granville Island, Canada Soccer House on the North Shore, and even a mountaintop viewing experience overlooking Vancouver, there are plenty of ways to experience FIFA World Cup 2026 without ever stepping inside the stadium.

You don't need a ticket to BC Place to experience FIFA World Cup 2026 in Vancouver.

Now that the tournament has officially kicked off, you’ll start to notice the giant screens that have popped up across the region. You’ll find fan zones, watch parties, and celebrations in the city and in nearby communities from North Vancouver to Surrey.

The official FIFA Fan Festival at the PNE is the headline attraction, but it's far from the only place to watch a match. Whether you're looking for a waterfront viewing party, a neighbourhood gathering, or an excuse to spend the day exploring a different part of Metro Vancouver, there are plenty of free options.

Here are some of the best.

FIFA FAN FESTIVAL VANCOUVER

If you're only planning to attend one World Cup event outside of BC Place, start here.

The official FIFA Fan Festival at Hastings Park has become Vancouver's main gathering place throughout the tournament. Big screens show matches from tournament matches across all of the host cities while food trucks & vendors, live music & entertainment, sponsor activations, and cultural programming keep the site busy between kickoffs. Note that the main viewing area inside the newly constructed amphitheatre is standing room only for free entry, but there are also plenty of premium paid seating options available.

WORLD CUP WATCH PARTY ON GRANVILLE ISLAND

Destination Vancouver/Hubert Kang

This might be the city's most scenic place to watch a match.

Granville Island has transformed part of its waterfront into a tournament-long viewing zone to host the Granville Island Watch Party, featuring a giant outdoor screen, food trucks, family activities, and a beer garden. Between matches, you're steps away from the Granville Island Public Market, local shops, galleries, and waterfront patios. You can also reach downtown Vancouver via a quick Aqua Bus trip or car ride.

The watch party will also run alongside the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Indian Summer Festival, Oh Canada! Day, and other fun events on Granville Island this summer.

If you're visiting Vancouver during the tournament and only have time for one watch party, this is arguably the easiest one to combine with a day of sightseeing.

Where: Granville Island
When: June 11 – July 19
Cost: Free

A NATURAL WATCH PARTY ON GROUSE MOUNTAIN

Only Vancouver could turn a mountain into a fan zone.

As part of Destination Canada's Natural Watch Parties initiative, Grouse Mountain is hosting a special mountaintop viewing experience overlooking the city and Burrard Inlet.

Grouse Mountain Resort

The free event filled quickly and all tickets had been claimed at the time of publication, although organizers have indicated additional tickets may be released. Even if you don't manage to secure a spot, it deserves a place on this list for creativity alone.

You can also make a day of it by tackling the Grouse Grind aka “Mother Nature’s StairMaster” or take it easier and explore other trails. Other activities and attractions include a bear habitat, ziplines, rope courses, gondola trips, scenic chairlift rides, and more.

Where: Grouse Mountain
When: June 27
Cost: Free, ticketed event

CANADA SOCCER HOUSE AT THE SHIPYARDS

The Shipyards has become one of the North Shore's most popular World Cup gathering spots as it hosts the Canada Soccer House on select dates this summer.

Brought to you by Canada Soccer, the free fan zone includes match broadcasts, activities, giveaways, food vendors, and programming tied to Canada's national teams.

The location helps. Watching a match on the waterfront with downtown Vancouver across the harbour isn't a bad way to spend an afternoon or evening. You’re also steps away from the Londsdale Quay Market and the Polygon Gallery if you need a break from action on the pitch.

Where: The Shipyards, North Vancouver
When: Select dates from June 11 – July 7
Cost: Free

SOUTH FLATS GAME DAYS

Tucked into Vancouver's South Flats district, this series feels a little more local than some of the larger fan zones.

The South Flats Game Days setup includes outdoor screenings, food trucks, live music, coffee, and a licensed bar area, as well as family-friendly programming. Free admission is available through advance registration.

For people who prefer smaller crowds and a neighbourhood atmosphere, this is one of the better options in the city.

Where: 1155 East 6th Avenue
When: June 11 – 13 & June 18 – 21
Cost: Free with registration

GASTOWN UNITED

Gastown's World Cup celebrations are less about one big event and more about the neighbourhood itself.

Restaurants, bars, cafés, and businesses throughout the district are participating in Gastown United, a tournament-long initiative that includes special programming, and promotions, plus a free viewing party in Carrall Street Alley on July 3, featuring knockout-round games of the day.

Even on days without scheduled events, Gastown is one of the most entertaining places in the city to catch a match at a local bar or eatery.

Where: Gastown
When: June 1 – July 5, with a free viewing party on July 3
Cost: Free

SOCCER IN THE SQUARE AT UBC

Residents on Vancouver's west side have their own World Cup gathering place.

Norman Mackenzie Square in Wesbrook Village is hosting Soccer in the Square at UBC. Matches will be shown on a big screen throughout the tournament, with family movies and community programming between games.

It's a convenient option for UBC residents, students, and anyone staying near Point Grey.

Where: Norman Mackenzie Square, UBC
When: June 11 – July 19
Cost: Free

WORTH THE TRIP: METRO VANCOUVER FAN ZONES

You don't need to stay in Vancouver to find a good World Cup atmosphere.

Several municipalities have launched their own free celebrations, many with large screens, family activities, food vendors, and special programming around Canada matches.

Surrey Soccer Fan Zones

With live matches being screened at three locations (Civic Plaza, Cloverdale Agriplex, and South Surrey Athletic Park), Surrey has one of the region's most ambitious viewing programs.

Coquitlam Summer of Soccer

Community watch parties, family activities, and outdoor screenings are taking place across the city on select dates throughout the tournament.

Fired Up for Football, New Westminster

New Westminster's city-wide celebration includes viewing parties, soccer programming, and community events.

Delta Soccer Fan Zones

Look for screenings, trivia nights, family activities, and special events in Ladner and North Delta over the duration of the tournament.

Richmond Celebrates Soccer

Richmond's tournament programming includes community events and cultural celebrations throughout the city on select dates during the World Cup.

Langley Match Viewing

Community viewing opportunities and World Cup events are taking place in both the City of Langley and the Township of Langley during the tournament.

BEFORE YOU GO

A few quick tips:

  • Arrive early for Canada matches and knockout-round games.
  • Take transit whenever possible.
  • Check event websites before heading out, especially for ticketed free events.
  • Have a backup viewing location in mind if your first choice reaches capacity.

The World Cup may be taking place inside BC Place, but some of the most enjoyable ways to experience it this summer are happening everywhere else.
