These Canadian Spots Made the World's 50 Best Discovery Guide
Canada has no shortage of celebrated hotels, restaurants, bars and wineries, but a recent update from World’s 50 Best offers a useful snapshot of the places earning international attention right now. Its expanded Discovery guide added more than 650 venues worldwide, including a strong Canadian showing that stretches from Fogo Island to Vancouver Island.

The World’s 50 Best recently updated their Discovery list, which highlights notable hospitality venues worldwide, including over 650 new entries. Unlike their main ranking list, the Discovery guide showcases unique and innovative spots across hotels, restaurants, bars, and wineries, helping travellers discover hidden gems and industry highlights. Here’s a look at which Canadian establishments made the list:
HOTELS
For accommodation, only one Canadian spot made the Discovery list: Fogo Island Inn. Located on Fogo Island off the coast of Newfoundland, the 29-room hotel sits on stilts above the rocky shoreline overlooking the North Atlantic. Guests can spend their time hiking, taking boat tours or learning about the island's history. At the same time, the inn operates as a social enterprise that reinvests its profits into the local community through the Shorefast Foundation.
VINEYARDS
Mission Hill Family Estate winery was the only Canadian vineyard featured on the Discovery list and is also number 45 on the list of best vineyards for 2025. Located in West Kelowna, the winery overlooks Okanagan Lake and has played a major role with establishing the region as one of the country's premier wine destinations. Visitors can choose from tastings, tour the barrel cellar or book a table at the estate’s Terrace Restaurant, which showcases locally grown ingredients, including from the property itself.
BARS
If cocktails are part of your travel plans, Canada's representation doesn't disappoint. Bars from Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Toronto, Montréal and Halifax all earned spots on the Discovery platform, and several are no strangers to international recognition. Vancouver's The Keefer Bar, for example, ranked seventh on North America's 50 Best Bars list. It's joined by other acclaimed spots including Botanist Bar, Prophecy, Bar Kismet, Bar Pompette, Civil Liberties, Atwater Cocktail Club and Cloakroom Bar, alongside a long list of bars that have helped put Canadian cocktails on the international map.
RESTAURANTS
Restaurants make up the largest share of Canada's Discovery selections, with acclaimed dining rooms stretching from coast to coast. Many are already familiar names on North America's 50 Best Restaurants list, including Vancouver's Published on Main and AnnaLena, Montréal favourites Vin Mon Lapin and Beba, Toronto's Edulis and Quetzal, and Calgary's Eight. The guide also extends beyond Canada's biggest cities, with destination restaurants like Langdon Hall in Cambridge, Ontario, alongside neighbourhood bistros and intimate omakase counters. Even Fogo Island Inn, already recognized as the country's only hotel on the platform, earns a second nod for its dining programme.
The latest Discovery update offers a cross-country look at some of Canada's best-known hospitality destinations, alongside a few that may be new to travellers. Together, the selections paint a picture of a food-and-drink scene that extends well beyond the country's biggest cities.
