This introduction to the unique and down-to-earth farm experiences of the Fields & Flavours Trail is brought to you in partnership with Explore Waterloo Region.
Fall is harvest time, the ideal season to explore Waterloo Region’s bounty of flavours and spend a day exploring on working farms.
The Fields & Flavours Trail is self-guided, with stops that highlight the region's rural character and agricultural roots. Along the way, you meet the growers, makers, and producers who can tell you exactly where your food comes from.
FEED YOUR FARM CURIOSITY
The Fields & Flavours Trail features 19 stops, from orchards and pumpkin patches to markets and cheesemakers.
Prefer a close-up animal encounter? Udderly Ridiculous Farm Life offers alpaca walks and bookable alpaca picnics, plus time with mini Highland cows and goats.

Seasonal PYO (Pick Your own) experiences are a big part of the draw, including fall apples at Shuh Orchards and pumpkins at Moore Farms.

Country markets such as Herrle’s Country Farm Market, Barrie’s Asparagus Farm & Country Market, and Fall Harvest Farm stock local produce, preserves, and pantry goods - a straightforward taste of Waterloo Region.
MEET THE MAKERS AT LOCAL MARKETS
Canada’s largest year-round farmers’ market is on the trail. At St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market, hundreds of vendors sell just-picked produce, local meats and cheeses, oven-warm baking, and artisan goods.

In Kitchener, the Kitchener Market brings together vendors with meats, produce, fresh bread, and ready-to-eat meals on Saturdays. In Cambridge, the Cambridge Farmers’ Market has operated since 1830, one of the oldest in the country, with farm-fresh eggs, maple syrup, honey, meats, and produce.
Markets are also where you meet the people behind the products: growers, bakers, and makers who are often happy to share their stories.
DISCOVER MENNONITE HERITAGE

While travelling rural roads on the Fields & Flavours Trail, you may pass horse-drawn buggies or find Mennonite farm stands selling seasonal goods.
Mennonite communities are central to Waterloo Region’s story, and their traditions shape the landscape. In St. Jacobs, The Mennonite Story offers a short introductory film and exhibits, and you can book countryside tours or seasonal wagon rides through local operators.
WANDER SLOWLY, SNACK OFTEN

The Fields & Flavours Trail isn’t a race! Instead, it rewards an easy pace. Take your time at each stop, taste as you go, and chat with the people you meet along the way. The trail is all about the joy of the journey, so feel free to linger.
PHOTOGRAPHY AND ETIQUETTE
